Chest of drawers from mid-century France. This piece has a beautiful burled walnut veneer across the drawers, tops, and sides. There are four drawers with angled facades for a unique effect. Each drawer has two chrome finished pulls. The trim is ebonized and the entire chest is finished with a lustrous French polish of museum-quality. The chest is supported by four tapered, ebonized legs. We were drawn to the sleek effect of this chest. This piece is in excellent vintage condition – the photos accurately depict the condition.

Originating in the 1950s-1960s, the Mid-Century Modern movement was based on functionality, simplicity, and an organic elegance. Many designers of the period championed the concept that good design could be for everyone. The material itself was used to create the design and dynamic beauty of the piece instead of relying on decorative ornamentation. New technologies gave way to new materials, such as vinyl and resin. Many designers and critics regard the Mid-Century Modern design aesthetic as honest and appealing. These qualities have helped the pieces stay relevant in a quickly changing world. As an interior style, Mid-Century Modern highlights notions of functionality and modern ease. With its interesting shapes, clean proportions and eye-catching sugar-coated colors, the mid-century modern style has been described as ‘furniture candy’.
