An exceptional French chest of drawers from the Consulat to early Empire period, circa 1800. This refined Empire commode exemplifies the architectural balance and restrained elegance associated with early 19th century French furniture.

The piece is surmounted by an impressive, unusually thick slab of Sainte-Anne marble, making it a distinguished marble-top commode. Beautifully figured and remarkably well preserved, the marble’s substantial profile enhances the commode’s strong and luxurious presence.

The warm, richly figured wood case is framed by contrasting ebonized uprights, elegantly accented with gilt-brass mounts. The three generously sized drawers retain their original period hardware, including finely cast lion-head appliqués with suspended ring pulls. The crisp detailing of these sculptural mounts reflects the high level of craftsmanship typical of fine early 19th century French furniture.

The harmonious interplay of warm wood tones, black architectural elements, gilt-brass ornamentation, and richly veined marble creates a sophisticated and unmistakably French Empire aesthetic.

This chest is in very nice antique condition with only minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The photos accurately depict the condition.
