Restauration style buffet from France. This case piece is made of solid wood construction, primarily walnut wood. The piece is finished with a lustrous French polish of museum-quality. The buffet has three dovetailed drawers at the top, each featuring solid brass handle pulls. Below that, there are three doors that open to interior wood shelving. Each door has an original key, and the locks are in working condition. The buffet has cut corners on the edges for an added sophisticated detail. The buffet is in excellent antique condition – the photos accurately depict the condition.
The Restauration style came as a reaction against the monumental pomp of the First Napoleonic Empire. It fostered refinement and subtlety in a move away from previous grandeur. It used many details from previous classic French styles. The furniture is characterized by a comfortable and unpretentious appearance. Dark woods were deemed too heavy and were replaced by lighter woods and finishes. Light and refined ornamentation was often seen.
