French chest of drawers or commode in the Louis XVI style. This chest is made of solid wood construction, primarily mahogany. It has been ebonized and finished with a lustrous French polish of museum quality. The original brass hardware and gilt brass trim can be found throughout. There are three dovetailed drawers, all with working locks and keys original to the chest. The case piece is supported by “toupies” legs with brass feet and trim. This chest supports an intact veined Carrara marble slab top, also original. This chest is in very nice antique condition with only minor surface wear consistent with age and use.
