Beautiful bronze sculpture of a deer on an onyx base signed by the artist, "Rochard." Irenee Rene Rochard was born in Villefranche sur Saone in 1906. As an artist he focused on animal sculpture and won many prizes for his work. Through the 1920's he met frequently with other sculptors interested in animal forms, such as Edouard Sandoz and Francois Pompon. Rochard's pieces were sculpted out of a range of material, from bronze, wood, marble, ceramic, etc. His figures show personality and character. His Art Deco style gave a fluidity to his subjects. He passed away in Paris in 1984. This sculpture is a lovely piece that shows his gentleness and familiarity with the animal form.
