A powerful and architecturally striking 17th century Spanish Baroque iron-mounted dowry chest, or arca de novia, retaining its original forged iron mounts and pierced inner lid panel.

The solid wood carcass is fully clad in hand-hammered iron straps and decorative plates, centered by an impressive escutcheon with original key aperture. The interior lid reveals a beautifully pierced wrought-iron panel of scrolling vegetal motifs, an uncommon and highly decorative detail typical of higher-quality Iberian craftsmanship.

Traces of early polychrome decoration remain visible across the paneled façade, adding depth and historic character. Massive side carrying rings and substantial iron hardware underscore its original function as both storage and secure strongbox.

Raised on turned feet, the chest possesses a sculptural, monastic presence, equally compelling in a historic setting or juxtaposed within a refined contemporary interior.
