An elegant and highly decorative pair of French Napoleon III style benches, crafted in solid mahogany and dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, circa 1900.

Each bench features a long rectangular upholstered seat raised on four finely turned mahogany legs. The restrained architectural frame is distinguished by a handsome reeded apron, while the ebonized mahogany provides an elegant contrast to the warm tones of the upholstery.

The benches retain their period upholstery, a richly textured woven jacquard or tapestry-style fabric decorated with scrolling floral and palmette motifs in muted shades of terracotta, ochre, dusty rose, and olive. Traditional brass nailhead trim follows the lower edge of the upholstered seat, adding a refined decorative detail.

The hinged seat lifts to reveal a discreet, shallow storage compartment concealed within the frame, an unusual and practical feature ideal for small accessories, linens or personal objects.

Beautifully proportioned and extremely versatile, these French upholstered benches could be used at the foot of a bed, beneath a console, in an entry hall or dressing room, or as occasional seating in a living room.
