Antique Italian plaster bust from Italy made in the late Victorian period, circa 1900. The sculpture is supported by an ebonized wooden base. The bust is a portrait of Doryphorus originally sculpted in bronze by Polykleitos in the 5th century BC. The original no longer exists, yet many marble and plaster versions have been created over the centuries. This piece is in very nice antique condition with only minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The photos accurately depict the condition.
